Last month, WhatsApp released the Event feature for Communities, allowing admins to make announcements for events such as meetings or other activities. Now, the same feature is being extended to regular groups.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is starting to roll out the event feature in groups for beta testers on Android and iOS. This feature is already available in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.14.9 and WhatsApp beta for iOS version 24.13.72.
This new feature enables users to create and manage events directly from the group. Previously, this feature was only available for groups within Communities.
Functionality of the Event Feature in Groups
To create a new event in a group, WhatsApp users can tap on the paperclip-shaped attachment icon in the chat column. Then, select the 'Event' icon with a calendar image. Users can input details about the event such as the name, description, date, and optionally location. The event creator can also choose whether a phone call or video call is required.
Once the event is created, all group members can view the event and its details, and the creator can update the details as needed. Users can also accept or decline invitations to participate in the event.
Security and Encryption
It is important to note that events created in WhatsApp groups are also protected by end-to-end encryption. This means that only group members can access information about the event and the communication within it.
Availability and Updates
The event feature for groups is already available to some WhatsApp users who have installed the latest update via Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The feature will be launched for all users in the coming weeks.
In the future, WhatsApp is exploring several features to enhance groups in communities, which may be extended to regular groups. Some of these features include reminders for events and the option to set a cover photo.
By incorporating these new features, WhatsApp aims to improve the overall group experience for its users, providing more organization and functionality for both group admins and members.
Based on the latest updates, WhatsApp continues to innovate and enhance its platform to cater to the diverse needs of its users. The introduction of the event feature in groups signifies a step towards making group communication more organized and efficient. Stay tuned for more updates and improvements on WhatsApp as it strives to provide a seamless messaging experience for all its users.
