Jakarta – An Israeli airstrike in eastern Lebanon has reportedly resulted in the deaths of two individuals, according to local government media. The incident occurred in the town of Shaara, close to the mountainous regions of eastern Lebanon.

A statement from Lebanon's National News Agency, cited by AFP, confirmed the airstrike, stating, "A hostile drone carried out an attack in the city of Shaara... killing two people and injuring two others."

The Israeli military has since commented on the strike, claiming it targeted Hezbollah operations. They stated that the drone strike was aimed at "identified facilities used by Hezbollah for the production and storage of strategic weaponry."

This attack comes in the wake of a fragile ceasefire that had been established following a year-long conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, which saw intense hostilities culminating in a two-month war. The ceasefire, agreed upon at the end of November, has been observed overall, although both sides have accused each other of violations.

An Israeli military statement highlighted that activities at the targeted site represented a "blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement."

Following the protracted conflict, Hezbollah has reportedly suffered considerable losses and a weakening of its leadership structure. The ceasefire agreement reached on November 27 mandated that Israeli forces withdraw from southern Lebanon while Hezbollah was expected to relocate its military infrastructure from the area. Despite this, Israeli troops have remained stationed at five strategic points deemed crucial by their military.

The situation remains tense as both parties navigate the complexities of the ceasefire and regional stability.
