Jakarta - Apple has just launched the iPhone 16e, officially the cheapest option in the iPhone 16 lineup. However, the price tag may still come as a shock to many consumers.
In the United States, the iPhone 16e starts at USD 599 for the 128 GB model, which translates to approximately Rp 9.7 million. The 256 GB version is priced at USD 699 (around Rp 11.4 million), while the top-of-the-line 512 GB model costs USD 899 (approximately Rp 14.7 million).
Social media users have voiced their frustrations regarding the pricing, with one critic stating, "USD 599 for iPhone 16e is crazy. This is a phone with just one camera." Another user chimed in, "This phone is too expensive considering the limited features."
Despite its status as a budget-friendly option, the iPhone 16e shares the A18 chip with its more expensive counterparts, like the iPhone 16. However, several features have been scaled back; for example, there’s only a single camera, and it lacks MagSafe and Dynamic Island functionalities. Nevertheless, some analysts contend that the price might be justifiable given the strong overall performance.
"All the essential aspects offered by the iPhone 16 are present in the iPhone 16e," noted Tom's Guide, referencing the device's potential. "Even Apple Intelligence, requiring some stringent hardware prerequisites, is fully integrated into the iPhone 16e. This includes Visual Intelligence, which was previously exclusive to other iPhone 16 models. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15, less than 18 months old, does not support any Apple intelligence features without being a Pro model."
The iPhone 16e comes equipped with several advanced features such as satellite connectivity, a Fusion 48MP camera lens, an Action button, Ceramic Shield glass, and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. "There’s a lot of excellent technology in this phone, and quality technology comes at a cost," they added.
The primary concern, according to analysts, is not the phone's capabilities but rather its accessibility. "The real issue isn't the phone's performance but how many potential customers might find it unaffordable due to the price increase compared to the iPhone SE 3," concluded Tom's Guide.
With the launch of the iPhone 16e, Apple presents a mixed bag: a more accessible iPhone 16 option that still carries a price point that may deter many consumers.
